Kathryn Mae "Kay" McCarty's Obituary
Kathryn (Kay) Mae McCarty, 81, formerly of Casey, IL entered Eternal Life on May 24, 2009 at Carroll Campbell Place in Lexington, South Carolina, due to complications of Alzheimer's. Kathryn was born on June 3, 1927 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Charles Schafer and Rosetta Davis. Kathryn Schafer married William McCarty on December 27, 1948 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Kay and Bill moved from Nebraska to Casper, Wyoming with their four young children in 1958. In March of 1967 Bill's job with Marathon Pipe Line Company took the family to Casey, Illinois, where they made their home for the next 37 years. Kay was an active member of the Altar Society at St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic Church. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved to knit, played in several bridge clubs, enjoyed an afternoon on the links and would play cards or games with friends and family at the drop of a hat. She always spoke fondly of the birthday club and her many dear Casey friends. Kathryn was also a member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants. Kay will be greatly missed by Bill, her husband of 60 years and her beloved children, Michael Martin McCarty and wife Margaret of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Patricia Ann Garner and husband Jack of Lawrenceville Illinois, Shannon Kay Hammond and husband Rick of Lexington South Carolina, sister Betty Parmenter, grandchildren Erin McCarty, Megan McCarty, Katrina Garner, Alicia Garner, Julia Garner, Melissa McQuillin, Neal Rister and great granddaughters Alexandra and Skyler McCarty in addition to many nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded Kathryn in death along with a son, Joseph William McCarty, an infant grandson, William J. Garner, her sister, Dorothy Rossiter, and her brother, Charles Schafer. Memorial services were held on May 27 2009 in Lexington, South Carolina and May 30 2009 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Internment was in Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge Colorado .
