Joseph Calvin Rardin's Obituary
Joseph Calvin Rardin, 89, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 26, 1925 in Martinsville, IL the son of John Leslie Rardin and Ruby Catherine Welsh Rardin. On November 25, 1967 he married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Lee in the home of her parents in Grafton, IL. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Betty Rardin of Martinsville, IL; son, Michael (Karen) Rardin of Martinsville, IL; daughter, Kathy (Mike) Plummer of Fieldon, IL; brother, Billy Jack Rardin of Casey, IL; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and wonderful caregivers. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Patrick C. Rardin; daughter, Ann Rardin Nash; brothers, Wendell, Doyle and Cleo Rardin and sister, Peggy Thompson. Mr. Rardin was a 1942 graduate of Martinsville High School. He joined the US Navy in 1942; serving his country during WWII on the USS Essex aircraft carrier. After his time in the service he joined the Pipefitters Union Local #157, Terre Haute, IN and was employed through them for over 65 years. Joe was a member of the Cottage Hills VFW; the Grafton Masonic Lodge and the Bluegrass Church of God. He had a contagious sense of humor and enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Hollensbe and Brother Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Bluegrass Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by the Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
