Joseph Russell "Joe" Lowry's Obituary
Joseph "Joe" Russell Lowry, 88, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 8:18 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. He was born September 17, 1923 in Martinsville, IL, the son of Clifford Bryan Lowry and Clara Mabel Blankenbeker Lowry. On May 25, 1946, he married Betty Lou Lamb in Missouri. She passed away on February 11, 2004. Survivors include daughter, Jean Elliott and husband John of Terre Haute, IN; daughter, Janet Lowry and companion Rick Brooks of Paris, IL; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Lowry; son, Randy Lowry; brother, Bob and sisters, Claudia Edwards and Freda Carpenter. Joe was a retired Illinois Department of Transportation employee, where he worked on road maintenance. He was a US Army WWII veteran and a member of the Martinsville American Legion. Joe was a member of the Martinsville Masonic Lodge and had previously served as past Grand Master. He was known for putting out a big garden, competing with his neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Brother Randy Black officiating. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 2509 South Neil Street, Champaign, IL 61820. Memorial tributes may be shared with the family at www.greenwellfh.com.
