Joseph "Joe" Hawker's Obituary
Joseph "Joe" Hawker, age 84, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 at his home. He was born on October 24, 1937 in Olney, IL, the son of Frank H. Hawker and Delilah Audrey (Glenn) Hawker. On December 16, 1986 he married Connie Jean Maynard in Owensboro, KY.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-five years, Connie Hawker of Martinsville, IL; children, Joseph T. "JT" Hawker of Brea, KY, Mary Audrey Hawker of CO, Yalonda Dawn Brown of Martinsville, IL, Jeffrey Scott Gardner, and Lora Suzan Simons of Robinson, IL; grandchildren, Pheriba Maree Hawker, Austin Jay Stamis, Donald Eugene Lowe, Joshua James Brown, and Christina Perone; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, grandchildren, Michael Armand and Christopher Armand; and sisters, Marjorie Gable, Dorothy Dunn, and Doris McKinney.
Joseph was a 1955 graduate of Casey High School. He worked at IL Consolidated Telephone Company as switchman for twenty-two years and at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center as monitor tech for seven years. Joe proudly served our country in the US Navy following the Korean War and in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Casey VFW. Joe was a former alderman, volunteer fireman and ambulance, and a former fire chief at Martinsville. He also volunteered restoring monuments at local cemeteries with Jim Niksch. Joe loved his family dearly and enjoying spending time with his grandkids.
Funeral service with military rites following will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Markwell Funeral Home with Mr. Andy Brenton, Mr. Caleb Towles, and Mr. Jason Towels officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date at Hazel Dell South Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Monday prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
