John Thomas Floyd's Obituary
John Thomas Floyd, 61, of Casey, IL passed away at 9:48 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at his home. He was born January 23, 1950 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Russell Floyd and Elsie Irene Grissom Floyd. Survivors include his brothers, David (Irene) Floyd of Neoga, IL; Russell Floyd of Lerna, IL; Kenneth (Dana) Floyd of Stockton, CA and Mike (Debbie) Floyd of Terre Haute, IN; sisters, Carolyn (Bill) Boyd of Channahon, IL and Joan (Charles) Connelly of Peoria, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister in law, Linda Cox Floyd. John had previously worked as a custodian for Eastern Illinois University and was a union boilermaker welder. He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran, having served his country from 1968 to 1970. John received the Purple Heart, a Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, a National Defense Service Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, a Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device; a Sharpshooter (Rifle) Badge and a First Class Gunner (M60) Badge. He was a member of the Casey VFW and the American Legion. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Military rites by the Casey VFW and the Hazel Dell American Legion will follow the service at the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, prior to the service at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to Casey VFW, 300 S. Central Ave., Casey, IL 62420. Memorial tributes and condolences may be sent to the family at www.markwellfuneralhome.com.
