John H. Daugherty, 80, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013 at Heartland Nursing Center in Casey, IL. He was born on July 23, 1933 in Martinsville, IL, the son of James M. Daugherty and Gladys M. Gray Daugherty. On September 7, 1962, he married Carolyn Sue Gardner in Casey, IL. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn Daugherty of Martinsville, IL; son, John William Daugherty of Florissant, MO; brothers, Otis Daugherty and wife Bobbie of Martinsville, IL and Jim Daugherty and wife Diane of Washington, IL; sister, Mary Jane Wright of Martinsville, IL and grandson, John W. Daugherty, Jr. of Florissant, MO. He was preceded by his parents, brother-in-law, Dave Wright and half-brother, Max Gray. Mr. Daugherty was a US Army Korean war veteran, serving his country from 1953 to 1955. He was a retired self-employed farmer in the Martinsville, IL area and worked as a groundskeeper for Eastern Illinois University for twenty-three years. John was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Casey, IL and the Farm Bureau. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Ebbler officiating. Burial will follow in the Baird Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by the Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday morning at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
