John Allen Conner's Obituary
John Allen Conner, 60, of Marshall, IL formerly of Martinsville, IL departed this life at 11 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010 into God's hands. He was born to Ern and Doris (Williams) Conner, of Martinsville, IL, on December 23, 1950 in Terre Haute, IN. He leaves behind his wife and friend Twyla, two daughters, Marcie (Rusty) Jennings of Lemon Grove, CA and Michelle (Rick) Byrne of Smyrna, TN; two sons, Christopher (Dawn) Conner of Beaumont, CA and Anthony (Jodi) Conner of Robinson. Four granddaughters, Christine, Dawn, Evelyn and Katelynn, four grandsons, Conner, Anthony, John, Brian and three great-grand children Jacob, Adam and Lyndsea. One sister, Mary (Jack) Shelley of Martinsville, three sisters in law, Pam Conner of Martinsville, Cheri Harris of Martinsville and Mona (Jim) Gilmore of Hot Springs, AR. One brother in law, Kevin (Jo) Harris of Palestine and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles and his former wife, Cindy (Winger) Conner. John attended school in Martinsville, IL. He joined the Navy in 1971 and proudly served until his discharge in 1977. He was an avionics technician aboard the USS Kennedy. He was a member of the Marshall American Legion. John worked for the Marshall school district for the past 22 years as a custodian and crossing guard. He was proud of his job and although he worked at all of the schools in Marshall he loved working at the South School with the smaller children. John will be sadly missed by all of his friends and coworkers. In his life John did not consider how many people his life touched. All of us know how truly special he was. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, IL with Rev. Mike Christian officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by the Marshall American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Marshall South School, 805 S. 6th Street, Marshall, IL 62441.
