Jane Reed's Obituary
Norma Jane Bliss Reed, age 80, died at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at the Casey United Methodist Church with Rev. Penelope Barber officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at the church. She was born September 17, 1925 in Casey, the daughter of Earl Alphonzo and Alva Cora Neeley Bliss, restaurant owners. She married Charles Reed, Jr., a farmer, on February 12, 1943; he preceded her in death on September 23, 1998. She was raised in town and upon marriage, moved to the farm with her husband. Not only was she a mother and housewife, she also assisted with the family farm for over 50 years. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a great cook and a very patient, caring person who always put others first. She had an outgoing personality and she never met a stranger. It was easy for her to make conversation with anyone whom she came in contact. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, the Cumberland County Farm Bureau and the Thursday morning coffee group at Hardee's. Surviving are a son, Gene Reed and wife Rita of Casey, daughter Martha Reed of Casey, grandchildren Gina Ritter and husband Brent of Casey, Angela White and husband Trent of Indianapolis, IN, and Amanda Boles and husband Nick of Fishers, IN, great-grandchildren Austin White, Gannon Boles and Whitney Ritter, brother Bill Bliss and wife Wini of Hobart, IN, sister Martha Ruth Irving of Independence, MO, several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Earl Frederick Bliss, sisters Ellen Louise Berg and Anna Mae Shadley and one infant brother. Memorials may be made to the Casey United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.
