James Leonard "Jim" Wilson's Obituary
James "Jim" Leonard Wilson, age 95, of Casey, IL passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Simple Blessings in Casey, IL. He was born September 10, 1928 in Jewett, IL the son of Merle Monroe Wilson and Bertha Emmaline (Jester) Wilson. On March 7, 1988 he married Harrietta Ann Montgomery in Terre Haute, IN; she passed away on January 8, 2024.
Survivors include his children, Rebecca Peno (Scott) of Effingham IL; Mark Wilson (Linda) of Tilden, NE and Edward Wilson of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Jared Peno (Ashlee) of Glen Carbon, IL; Matt Peno (Jackie) of Effingham, IL and Weston Peno (Cathleen) of Effingham IL; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Jackson, Austin, Will, Ryan, Rhett, Grace and Anthony; in-laws, nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Donald Wilson (Virginia) and H L Wilson (Bernice); sisters, Vera Wood and Pearl Wilson and niece, Doris Orrell (Ben).
Jim was a 1948 graduate of Casey High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Jim retired from the City of Casey street department after 12 years. Prior to working for the city he was employed by Forest Oil Company. Jim enjoyed horseshoe pitching and was inducted into the Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame for 50 years of pitching. He met many friends while pitching throughout the area. Jim was honored as Casey Citizen of the Month. Jim and Harrietta cherished time they could spend together; they especially enjoyed square dancing, spending time with their pets, driving around town and dining out.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Inman officiating. Burial will follow in Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL with military rites by Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
