James Joseph Blome's Obituary
James "Jim" Joseph Blome, 73, of Casey, IL passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his home with his family at his side. Jim was born on March 5, 1938 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Joseph Bernard and Helen Louise Dowden Blome. On August 19, 1961, he married Joyce Ann Moore in Vincennes, IN. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Joyce Blome; sons, David Blome, Brian (Cindy) Blome and Ed (Melanie) Blome; daughters, Monica (Danny) Hickox and Barbara (Eric) Inskeep, all of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Candace (Andrew) Yaklich, Whitney Hickox, Joel and Joshua Blome and Megan Inskeep; great grandsons, Kix and Corbin Yaklich; sister, Joan C. (Ken) Frey of Vincennes, IN; brother, John B. (Kathy) Blome of Vincennes, IN and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Paul R. Blome and Robert F. Blome and beloved aunt, Helen C. Blome. Jim was a retired teacher of 30 years for Casey Westfield School District. He began his teaching career in 1960 in Washington, IN, and later taught in Grafton, OH and Montpelier, IN. He was a graduate of Vincennes Central Catholic High School and Indiana State University. Jim's memberships included the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and he held offices including President of both the Casey Education Association and the Clark County Retired Teachers Association. He also was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Indiana State University and longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the parish Holy Name Society in Casey, IL. Jim was a lifetime St. Louis Cardinals fan and an all around sports enthusiast. He was active in his community from coaching and organizing youth baseball and softball summer programs as well as delivering Tote A Meal and helping serve at the local food pantry. He was a lover of horses and an avid pool player. Private funeral mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Casey, IL with Father Michael Haag officiating.
