Howard Lee "Hardy" Snodgrass' Obituary
Howard L. "Hardy" Snodgrass, 81, of Casey, IL passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Heartland Nursing Center in Casey, IL. Hardy was born on May 7, 1927 in Licking Township south of Casey, the son of Morton Snodgrass and Ollie Williams Snodgrass. On December 13, 1968 in Casey, IL, he married Marjorie Watson Collins. She passed away on February 16, 1992. Hardy is survived by his daughter, Sue Doolin and husband Dick of Decatur, IL; four grandchildren, Richard, Chase, Traci and Chelsea Doolin of Decatur, IL; sister, Bernice Hires of Casey, IL; nieces, Leah Snodgrass of Jonesville, MI, Joyce Ringer and husband Mick of Bryan, OH, and Marilyn Talbott of Martinsville, IL; nephews, Harland Kemper Snodgrass of Minneapolis, MN and Chuck Hires and wife Sandie of Orange City, FL; and special friend, Norma Veteto of Casey, IL. His parents, wife, two brothers, Max and Harland Snodgrass, sister, Mary Grubb, infant sister, Hazel Dell Snodgrass, nephew, Bill Snodgrass and niece, Amy Jane Snodgrass preceded him in death. Hardy was a WWII Navy veteran, a member of the Casey VFW Post #5762 and Hazel Dell American Legion Post #1230, Casey Masonic Lodge, Sword of Bunker Hill, a Casey volunteer fireman, an avid golfer and mushroom hunter. He took pride in his ability to be able to make anything either by welding or woodworking and he made many flagpoles that were placed around Casey. Some of his other projects included musical instruments, clocks, cabinets, knives, kites, model boats, stone fireplaces, and even an airplane. Hardy also was a competitive horseshoe pitcher and created and provided an indoor horseshoe pitching center in Casey. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Markwell Funeral Home in Casey, Illinois with Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home following the funeral service by the Casey VFW Post #5762 and Hazel Dell American Legion Post # 1230. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Hardy's ashes will be buried Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Casey-Cumberalnd Cemetery. A memorial box at the funeral home will be available for donations and contributions to the Casey Humane Society, P.O. Box 425, Casey, IL 62420; Casey Fairview Park, P.O.
