Helen Huckaba's Obituary
Helen Huckaba, 84, of Martinsville, IL, passed away at 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Heartland Nursing Center in Casey, IL. She was born on September 6, 1928 in Greenup, IL, the daughter of George Louis Henderson and Oral Effie Kemper Henderson. On April 13, 1947, she married Floyd Eugene Huckaba. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1997. Survivors include her sons, Harold Huckaba and wife Ginny, Steve Huckaba and wife Tammy, and Kenny Huckaba and wife Donna, all of Martinsville, IL; daughter, Kathy Myers and husband Terry of Antwerp, OH; sister, Mary Snyder of Ft. Wayne, IN; eleven grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren, plus one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Paul, Ernest, Harvey Eugene and John Henderson, and one sister, Minerva Cisney. Mrs. Huckaba was a former switchboard operator in Martinsville, a member of the First Baptist Church in Casey and Order of Eastern Star. Helen had a passion for music; she loved to sing and even wrote and recorded a few of her own songs. At one time she belonged to a musical band called "The Silver Streaks". She spent many hours visiting and entertaining the residents of various nursing homes and enjoyed her involvement with her church. She and Floyd loved to travel and camp in their motor home with many trips to Florida where their nickname was "Recycled Teenagers" because they were always on the go. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Bro. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
