Harry Leon Hupp's Obituary
Harry "Leon" Hupp, 72 of Westfield, Illinois passed away at 11:00 p.m. on April 13, 2007, at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. He leaves behind his wife, Frances "Merle" Barbee Hupp. They were married on December 20, 1952 in Corinth, Mississippi. Also surviving are one son, Dayrel Hupp & wife Joy; three grandchildren, Trisha Gilbert & husband James; Jared Hupp & wife Natasha and Neeley Hupp & boyfriend Steve Hawkins all of Westfield. Leon had five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Ethan & Cole Gilbert and Trinton Davis of Westfield. He had one sister Mary Walden of Martinsville and two brothers, Allen Hupp & wife Abby of Greenup; Floyd Hupp and friend Lil Todd of Oakland; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Hupp of Westfield and Nora Hupp of Lawton, Oklahoma. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael Hupp; two brothers, Eugene Hupp and Ronnie Hupp and one nephew Jeremy Davis. Leon was born August 20, 1934 in Oakland, IL to Harry Alonzo Hupp and Mary Mabel Massie Hupp. After Leon and Merle were married, they began their life in Kansas, Illinois. Before Leon started his life long farming career, he worked for the railroad out of Ohio. On January 13, 1956, Leon and Merle were blessed with their first son, Michael Leon, whom passed away on May 12, 1996. In 1959 Leon and Merle moved to rural Westfield. On July 29, 1959, they were blessed with their second son, Dayrel Lee. Leon started his farming career in January of 1959. In August 1971 Leon and Merle built and moved into their current residence in Westfield, Illinois. On August 3, 1976, their son Dayrel was married to Joy Davis of Westfield. On August 20, 1978, Leon and Merle were blessed with their first granddaughter, Trisha Janelle; then on February 22, 1980, they received their first grandson, Jared Leon, and on February 2, 1985, their second granddaughter was born, Neeley Lynn. Leon enjoyed camping, his love of farming, and spending time with his Grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed driving the countryside checking on the farm and crops in his much loved truck. Leon also enjoyed spending time at the Westfield Diner. This past harvest in 2006, Leon was still doing what he loved and enjoyed the most and that was driving his combine. Leon was a member and trustee of the Westfield Baptist Church, lifelong member of the Scottish Rite-Danville Consistory, and a member of the Westfield Masonic Lodge. Leon will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Westfield Baptist Church in Westfield, IL with Rev. Jim Butler and Rev. Paul Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the Richwoods Cemetery, Westfield, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening 4 - 7 p.m. at the Church. Memorials may be made to the Westfield Baptist Church, P.O Box 192, Westfield, Illinois 62474 and Casey Health Care Center, 100 N.E. 15th St., Casey, Illinois 62420.
