Harold A "Jack" Malcom's Obituary
Harold A. "Jack" Malcom, 86, of Charleston, IL passed away at 12:12 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL. He was born on December 20, 1926 in Casey, IL, the son of Harry B. Malcom and Opal Maurine Wilson Malcom. In 1946 he married Virginia D. Ashby in Toledo, IL. She passed away on July 22, 2002. Survivors include his daughter, Penny Allen and husband Terry of Charleston, IL; daughter in law, Jarvis Malcom of Charleston, IL; granddaughter, Shanan Strode and her husband Bill of Charleston, IL; grandson, Travis Malcom of Charleston, IL; granddaughter, Amanda Malcom of Charleston, IL and great grandsons, Conner, Kasey and Cody Strode. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Virginia Malcom; brother, Forest "Frosty" Malcom and son, Keith Malcom. Mr. Malcom graduated from Casey High School in 1945 and was a US Army WWII veteran. Jack was a retired lifelong farmer in the Charleston, IL area. He raised and showed quarter horses and sold a brood mare to the King Ranch in Texas. Jack was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Dairy Goat Association. He raised a Junior National Champion dairy goat and a Reserve World halter horse. Jack was a founding member of the Casey Saddle Club in Casey, IL and a member of the Rainbow Riding Club in Cooks Mill, IL. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL with Graveside Military Rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the Paradise Equestrian Therapy Center, 18146 ECR 750 N, Charleston, IL 61920. This program assists youth and adults with special needs through the use of horses.
