Harold Dean Collins' Obituary
Harold Dean Collins "Dean", age 68, of Casey, IL passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 morning at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born October 22, 1955 in Danville, IL the son of Jonathan Edward Collins and Arselia Georgene Baird Collins. On June 13, 1992 he married Elizabeth Kathleen "Betsy" Carlson in Covington, IN.
Survivors include his wife Betsy Collins of Casey, IL; children, Jonathan Collins of Casey, IL; Amanda McGuire of Gilbert AZ; Daniel Collins of Casey, IL; Peter Collins of Casey, IL and Hannah Collins of Casey, IL; siblings, Ernie Smith (Jackie) of Brazil, IN; Duane Collins (Debbie) of Covington, IN; Nettie Anderson of Tilton, IL; Carol Garrison (Billy) of Mt. Vernon, IL; Otto Collins (Donna) of Indianola, IL and Karla Stewart of West Frankfort, IL; grandchildren, Elijah Barnes, Kole Dean Collins and Corinne Gibbs, many nephews and nieces, his Church family and many friends. Dean was preceded by his parents, John and Georgene Collins; siblings, Mary Ellen Griffin, Fred Collins, Ralph Collins, Nancy McWhinney, Naomi Collins, Paul Collins, Stan Collins, Lois Cunningham and Bethe Collins.
Dean was a 1973 graduate of Jamaica High School. He worked for General Motors for 30 years before retiring and starting a new career as a truck driver. He drove a truck for over 15 years and was looking forward to his second retirement. Dean loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandkids. He had a lot of fun camping with the Marshmallow Crew and playing corn hole. He enjoyed making people laugh and always had some type of joke to share. He was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ church where he was an elder. Dean served many roles in the church including most recently pastor of his Effingham congregation. Dean was loved by his family and friends and was a blessing to many who knew him. He was a rock for his family and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Brush Creek Campground, 464 Co. Hwy. 18, Xenia, IL with Jimmy Munson officiating.
