Harold Bennett's Obituary
Harold "Sport" Bennett, age 84, of Martinsville, died on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 in Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with Pastors Dan Wilson and Tom Marsh officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 10th at the funeral home and burial will be the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Martinsville with graveside military rites performed by the Martinsville American Legion Post #515. He was born January 14, 1921 in Martinsville, the son of Ernie and Jess Husted Bennett. He married Virginia Flenner on April 26, 1941; she survives. He was employed by Marathon Oil, Pete Gallatin Construction Company and was the owner/operator of Bennett's IGA in Martinsville and was also the owner of two convenient food marts in Elmira and Corning, NY. He served his country in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the Martinsville American Legion Post #515. He was also a member of the Martinsville Bible Church for over 60 years. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Bennett of Martinsville, two sons, Randy Bennett and wife Judy of Martinsville and Monty Bennett and wife Trish of Charleston, daughter Barbara Robinette and husband Elwyn of Sarasota, Fla., two granddaughters, Michelle Taylor and husband Pete of Charleston and Danielle Downs and husband Matthew, stationed with the military in Wiesbaden, Germany, seven grandsons, Chad Bennett and wife Stephanie of Maryland Heights, Mo., Brett Bennett and wife Lisa of Mattoon, Matthew Bennett and wife Tara and Andrew Bennett and wife Wendy, all of Benton, Ark., Christopher Bennett of Bryant, Ark., and Noah Robinette of Sarasota, two great-grandchildren, Mason Tyler of Charleston and Olivia Bennett of Mattoon, brother Nellie Benentt and wife Ruth of Marhsall and one sister Madolyn Kannmacher of Martinsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jason Bennett, two brothers Harlin and Lowell Bennett, one brother-in-law Deon Kannmacher and one sister-in-law Gwendollyn Bennett. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made tot he Martinsville Bible Church Building Fund, PO Box 310, Martinsville, IL 62442.
