George F Fort's Obituary
George F. Fort, 83, of Stonington, Illinois passed away at 6:46 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois. He was born December 6, 1924 in Ashmore, Illinois, the son of Grover Cecil Fort and Nora Hattie Handley Fort. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Fort of Stonington, IL; stepson, John Andrews and wife Sue of Salem, IL; stepson, Chuck Andrews and wife Jan of Monticello, IL; half-brother, Leo Edwards and wife Betty of Decatur, IL; step grandchildren, John David Andrews, Kari Johnson, Ami Rubin, Scott Ryan, and Matt Andrews and ten step great grandchildren. His parents, stepdaughters, Frances Andrews and Jan Hines; sisters, Irene Shelton and Dorothy Gordon and step grandson Todd Andrews preceded him in death. George was a retired after thirty-four years as a Lead Operator for Staley Manufacturing in Decatur, IL. George was a WWII Navy veteran, having served on the USS New York. He was a member and Past Commander of the Stonington American Legion #257. After his retirement George worked as a crossing guard for the Stonington Elementary School and worked in farming for Garwood's. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Markwell Funeral Home in Casey, IL with Pastor Jeff Mayfield officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery, north Greenup, IL with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW Post #5762, Hazel Dell American Legion Post #1230 and Stonington American Legion Post #257. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to Stonington American Legion Post #257, 401 W. North St., Stonington, IL 62567.
