Gene Whitton's Obituary
Paul Gene Whitton, age 89, of Casey, IL passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN with his family by his side. He was born December 10, 1935 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of James Andrew Whitton and Edna Marie (Gilbert) Whitton. On November 24, 1955 he married Shirley Ann Crook in Monticello, IL; she passed away on July 17, 2024.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Whitton (Sheree) of Martinsville, IL; Kathy Roberts (Greg) of Jewett, IL and Karri Brown (Thomas) of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Chase Whitton, Mitchell Whitton, Rowdy Roberts, Chance Roberts, Wyatt Roberts, Jessica Peppin and Jared Richardson; great grandchildren, Lilyana Peppin, Brody Roberts, Whitley Roberts, Jakeb Richardson, Jude Richardson and Jonathan Richardson; many nephews and nieces; his Church family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter in law, Brenda (Boyd) Whitton.
Gene was a 1954 graduate of Casey High School and graduate of Frontier College. He was employed with the City of Casey utility department as Superintendent of Utilities for thirteen years. He then worked power line construction in Indiana for eight years. Gene owned and operated Whitton Electric; he has proudly served Casey and the surrounding communities since 1977.
Gene and Shirley were faithful members of Casey First Christian Church, where he participated in many offices, committees and organizations in the church. Gene was a member of the Sportsman 's Club, Casey Historical Society, Casey Alumni Association and Casey Jaycees. He was a member of Clark County ESDA Auxillary police under Sherriff Dan Crumrin. He volunteered with Boy Scouts, was a Scoutmaster and serviced on scouting committees. Gene and Shirley enjoyed taking trips with friends on their motorcycle and riding around town in their jeep and golf cart. Gene enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
A memorial service will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Casey First Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. prior to the service at Casey First Christian Church, 200 SE Eighth St., Casey, IL. Burial will be in Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL at a later date.
