Fred Huisinga's Obituary
Fred W. "Fritz" Huisinga, age 84, of Camarillo, CA, formerly of Casey, died on Monday, June 27, 2005 at the Camarillo Convalescent Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Casey. Markwell & Son Funeral Home of Casey assisted with the arrangements. He was born February 21, 1921 on a farm near Rapidam, MN, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Huisinga. He married Thelma "Cookie" Jelinek on August 28, 1947; she survives. He graduated from Mankato High School in Mankato, MN, joined the Minnesota National Guard in 1937 and the US Navy in 1939. He was assigned to various ships and stations during his time in the Navy, including the USS Yorktown, USS Enterprise, USS Intrepid, NAS Alameda, CA, NAS Barbers Pt. HI, and MAS North Island, CA. He participated in 12 major WWII battles in the Pacific and was discharged in July 1947 as an AM1. "Fritz" as he was known to everyone, had a great love of the outdoors, and especially liked to fish and hunt. He was licensed by the Coast Guard to operate passenger carrying vessels up to 100 tons and spent many years on the water as Captain of his own charter boat and operating boats owned by others. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Thelma "Cookie" Huisinga, sister Emma Beccue and husband Harry, brother-in-law Terry Gayes and many neices, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Luella Gayes. Memorials may be made to the hospice of the donor's choice.
