Franklin Burnell Runkel's Obituary
Franklin Burnell Runkel, 86, of Arthur, Illinois formerly of Phoenix, Arizona passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Illinois. He was born on September 28, 1922 in Shelbyville Illinois, the son of Joe Runkel and Edna Smith Runkel. On November 23, 1944 he married Iwana May Bartholomew in Casey, Illinois. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1951. Survivors include his wife of sixty four years, Iwana Runkel of Arthur, Illinois; sister, Geraldine Goodwin of Arcola, Illniois; brother in law, Ernest Bartholomew and wife Beth of Arthur, Illinois; nephews, David Bartholomew, Mark Bartholomew, Harold Runkel and Charles Runkel; nieces, Margaret Beech, Linda Bell and Edna Mae Clemons; special cousins, Ann and Christy Comer of Phoenix, AZ and several great nieces and nephews. His parents and brother, Kline Runkel preceded him in death. Mr. Runkel was a US Army WWII veteran. He was retired in 1984 from Allied Signal, Inc., (Honeywell-Air Research) after twenty three years of employment as an inventory control officer. Frank and Iwana moved back to Arthur, Illinois in 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL, with graveside military rites by Casey VFW Post #5762 and Hazel Dell American Legion Post #1230. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to The Arthur Home, 423 Eberhardt Dr., Arthur, IL 61911 or Vine Street Christian Church, 249 S.
