Ethard N Lee's Obituary
Ethard N. Lee , age 102, formerly of Casey, died on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 5:30 a.m. in Sunset Home, Quincy, IL. He was born June 16, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois the son of I.W. and Ottie R. Wilson Lee. He married Olga Blomberg May1, 1946 in Lake Forest, IL. She preceded him in death March 27, 1969. On March 21, 1981, he married Neva VanZandt in Quincy. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2009. Mr. Lee received his B.S. from the University of Illinois, his M.A. from the University of Iowa, and graduated from Chicago Teachers' College. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1946. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Lee taught social science in Chicago, Casey, IL and Chillicothe, Ohio until 1947. He also coached basketball, baseball and track. He was then employed by Gil Boers Equipment company for 12 years in sales. Mr. Lee was employed by Investors Diversified Services for 17 years in Quincy, until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Lee was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church where he served on the Memorial Committee. He also belonged to Westview Golf Course. Mr. Lee had a love of learning and reading, and he was an avid University of Illinois fan. Survivors include a nephew, Dr. Paul Stohr and his wife, Sue, of St. Louis, MO; two nieces Joyce Hendrix and her husband, Ned, of St. Louis, MO and Jackie Lower of Terre Haute, IN; a step daughter, Diana McCleary and her husband, Donald, of Liberty, IL; four step grandchildren: Dawn Ormond and her husband, Joe, of Liberty, IL; Debbie Johnson and her husband, Doug, of Quincy, IL; Darin McCleary and his wife, Nikki, of Liberty, IL; and David McCleary and his wife, Janice, of Liberty, IL; seven step great grandchildren: Tyler and Austin Ormond of Liberty, IL; Jordan and Courtney Johnson of Quincy, IL; Macy and Jonathan Willer of Liberty, IL; and one due in June. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and a sister Helen Jenuine. Memorial Service: a memorial service was held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy, Illinois. Inurnment: A graveside serivce was held on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at Washington Street Cemetery in Casey, IL.
