Esther Arlene Hensiek's Obituary
Esther Arlene Hensiek, of Casey, Illinois, entered eternal life on Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Heartland Nursing Center in Casey, Illinois, just four days short of her 99th birthday. Arlene, daughter of Grace Delp, was born May 24, 1912, at the home of her grandparents in Cumberland County, Illinois. She married Earl Hensiek on October 22, 1932. They were parents of three children: Stephen Earl, who died at childbirth, Diana Lynn, and David Lee. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Reeds and husband Phillip of Martinsville, Illinois, and son, Dave Hensiek and wife Jana of Casey. She was blessed with five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Steve Reeds and wife Mary and their children Brenden and Kennedy of Sandy Hook, Connecticut; Lori Reeds Waggoner and husband Bob and children Hallie and Addie of Pinckneyville, Illinois; Donovan Hensiek and wife Kiley and daughters Jenna and Lindzy Dolder of Indianapolis, Indiana; Bridget Campbell and husband Chad and sons Jacob and Connor of Nampa, Idaho; and Tim Hensiek and wife Shawnda and daughter Chloe, of Jonesborough, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in August 1973; son, Stephen Earl, in July 1946; mother, Grace Delp Gaines; stepfather, Arsie Gaines; and stepsister, Gertrude Gaines Ennis. Arlene was able to live in her own home and drive until February 2011. She was very much a people person. She loved going places. She was a member of the Casey Country Club, where she played bridge every Tuesday. She was active at the Casey Senior Citizens Center and attended the Baptist Senior Ministry. She was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, where she helped with funeral dinners and Bible school. Arlene was an election judge for 54 years, from 1952 to 2006. She joined the Casey Woman's Club in 1944 and was a member for 67 years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a homemaker and loved to sew. In earlier years, she was employed at Dr. Harris's drug store and the E. G. Payne Insurance Co., and she and Earl were co-owners of the Thiel Furniture Store in Casey. Even as recently as last summer, Arlene enjoyed working in her yard and raised wonderful vegetables and beautiful flowers. She loved to dance! Funeral services to honor Arlene's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, Illinois, with the Rev. Dr. Penelope Barber officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations can be made to the Casey In Action/Arlene Hensiek Memorial Tree Fund, P.O. Box 163, Casey, IL 62420. Funds donated will be used to plant new trees in Casey Fairview Park. Donations are tax-deductible. Memorial tributes may be sent to the family at www.markwellfuneralhome.com.
