Esther Naomi Vernon Carlen's Obituary
Esther Naomi Vernon Carlen, 95, of Casey, IL passed away at 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL surrounded by her family. She was born August 10, 1915 in Crawford County, IL, the daughter of Roy Vernon and Martha Ann Plummer Vernon. On November 28, 1946 she married Rev. Fred R. Carlen in Casey, IL. He passed away on April 28, 1970. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon K. Carlen of Casey, IL; step-daughter, LaDora Carlen of Casey, IL; step-daughter, Janis Greenwell of Casey, IL; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and one due in April 2011 and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, husband, three brothers, four sisters, two step-sons, one step-daughter and one granddaughter. Naomi served as a Pastor's wife in the various pastorates of her husband Fred. She was a faithful member of the Casey-White Oak Church of God. She had many talents, sewing, piano playing & singing, pie baking, crocheting and knitting. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Rev. Kenny Inman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery, south of Charleston, IL. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to the Casey White Oak Church of God, 3305 E. 1000th Rd., Casey, IL 62420 or the Casey Township Library, 307 E. Main St., Casey, IL 62420.
