Elvia Louise Tarble Murphy's Obituary
Elvia Louise Tarble Murphy, 82, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Burnsides Community Health Center in Marshall, IL surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 5, 1930 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Charles Nelson Tarble and Gertrude Frances "Billie" Burke Tarble. On January 1, 1955, she married Maurice Wayne Murphy in Toledo, IL. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1973. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Forsythe and husband Jack of Marshall, IL; sons, Charles Murphy and wife Jennifer of Westfield, IN and John Murphy and wife Gretchen of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Carol Felgenhour and husband Corb of Lansing, MI, Clint Forsythe and wife Lindsay of Belleville, IL, Maura and Annie Murphy of Westfield, IN, Jacob Murphy of Albuquerque, NM and Avery and Elisabeth Murphy of Casey, IL; and great grandchildren, Ari and Kiran Felgenhour and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of Toledo High School before going on to the University of Illinois to receive her Bachelor's in Home Economics. She started her career in teaching Home Economics at the Martinsville High School from 1952 to 1956. She then took some time off to start her family. After her husband passed away in 1973, she went back to work at Martinsville Grade School as a Reading teacher for over 10 years. Elvia was a member of the Martinsville Bible Church. Her other interests included reading, traveling, music and playing board games with her grandchildren. She was a very active member in many Martinsville organizations. Some of her memberships included Martinsville City Council, President of the Martinsville Library Board, Judge at the Martinsville Agricultural Fair Arts Hall, Martinsville Women's Club and American Legion Auxiliary. Elvia was also a Lincoln Log Cabin interpreter and used her seamstress skills to make clothing reflecting the Lincoln era for herself and others. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Martinsville Bible Church with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Martinsville Bible Church, 509 East Ridgelawn Road, Martinsville, IL.
