Elveira Harthan's Obituary
Elveira Harthan, 75, of Martinsville, IL passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. She was born January 10, 1938 in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Herbert A. Barber and L. Elaine Wiser Barber. On September 3, 1971, she married Charles E. "Hap" Harthan. "Hap" passed away on April 26, 2002. Survivors include her daughter, Dawn H. Wallace and husband Henry of Martinsville, IL; her son, Dale E. Harthan of the Dominican Republic; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; extended family; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Harold Logue; her husband, "Hap" Harthan and her infant son, Glen Eric. Elveira was a 1956 graduate of Martinsville High School and she attended Indiana State University. She worked at Pap-R-Products Printing for over 29 years. For more than 25 years, Elveira watched over and led the Martinsville Food Pantry, serving residents in Martinsville and the surrounding area. Elveira was a life-long member of the Martinsville United Methodist Church. In addition to helping people in need and having an abiding love for her family and friends, Elveira had an active, life-long interest in music. The range of her soprano voice was "legendary." Upon request, she would sing solos and in ensembles. She participated in her Church choir, the Masterworks Chorale at Indiana State University, the Community Choir performances in Marshall, IL, in local musical productions (Far Off Broadway Players, among others), and more recently, in the March 2013 performance of Handel's Messiah at the Casey United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Martinsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Donald Graham and Rev. John N. Gartelos officiating. Burial will follow in the Bean Cemetery, Cleone, Clark County, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Martinsville United Methodist Church, 115 N.
