E. Eldena Connelly, 78, a resident for the past three years of "Our Place" at Burnsides Community Health Center, Marshall, IL and formerly of Mattoon, IL passed away at 6:57 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. She was born on October 3, 1932, in Tuscola, IL, the daughter of Truman Jay Slagley and Mary Oneida Fasnacht Slagley. Survivors include sons, Charles A. Connelly and wife Molly of Sequin, TX; Ralph Connelly and wife Anna of Mattoon, IL; Mike Connelly and wife Cindy of Bonny Lake, WA; Glenn Connelly and wife Sherry of Westfield, IL; daughter, Candy Nichols and husband Ray of Casey, IL; brothers, Paul Slagley of Centralia, IL; Virgil Slagley of Centralia, IL; sisters, Wanda Roberson of Marshall, IL; Vivian Kelly and husband Joe of Centralia, IL; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. Eldena was a registered nurse and retired from Mattoon Manor. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed reading, crocheting afghans and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Shaw Chapel, Burnsides Community Health Center, 410 N. Second St., Marshall, IL with Rev. Marvin Oakley officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at Shaw Chapel. Graveside committal services and burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Independent Order of Oddfellow Cemetery, Xenia, IL. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to "Our Place" c/o Burnsides Community Health Center, 410 N. Second St., Marshall, IL 62441.
