Duane J Smith's Obituary
Duane J. Smith, 86, of Casey, Illinois passed away at 5:05 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Heartland Manor Nursing Center in Casey, IL. He was born May 7, 1923 in Casey Illinois, the son of Clarence O. Smith and Dott McFarland Smith. On January 12, 1942, he married Ruth M. Johnson in St. Charles, Missouri. She passed away on February 5, 2002. Survivors include son, Leroy Smith and wife Elsie of West York, IL; daughter, Sharon Throckmartin and husband Paul of Riverton, WY; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Loren Smith of Casey, IL; brother, Denver Smith of Dallas, TX; brother, Larry Smith of Casey, IL; sister, Kay Lingafelter and husband Bob of Kissimmee, FL. His parents, wife, Ruth Smith, one great granddaughter and one sister Lois Helen Smitley preceded him in death. Duane was a second generation dairy farmer and carpenter. He spent his entire life working in carpentry until his retirement. Through out his life as he was able he would be out hunting every deer season. He attended the Martinsville Bible Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL with Brother Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home in Casey. Memorial donations and contributions may be made to Heartland Manor Nursing Center, P.O. Box 10, Casey, IL 62420.
