Doris E Orndorff's Obituary
Doris Elizabeth Lewis Orndorff, 92, of Porter, Texas passed away at 8:10 a.m. on June 23, 2008 at home. She was born on April 4, 1916, the eldest daughter of ten children born to Willie E. and Lula E. Mays Lewis, in the hills of West Virginia near Parkersburg. Doris married Allen L. Orndorff in November 1936 and they resided in Porter, Michigan during the oil boom and they then moved to Clay City, Illinois. Allen continued to work for Pure Oil Company (later Union Oil) until his death in December 1969. Doris became a hair stylist in 1963 and had her own shop in Clay City for many years where she also enjoyed traveling, antiquing, gardening and cooking. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Bigford and Joy Beals near Breckinridge, Michigan; her two children: daughter, Ellen K. Bates of Porter, Texas; son, John L. Orndorff and wife Jan of Kingwood, Texas; four grandchildren, Stacey Bates Brown and husband Edward of Durango, Colorado, Matthew A. Bates and wife Lori of Kingwood, Texas; Jennifer Bernard, and husband Chris of Kingwood, Texas; Ronald P. Frank and wife Aurelia of Kingwood, Texas; nine great grandchildren, Jessalyn, William & Nicole Brown, Samantha Bates, Janiece, Faith and Maggie Bernard and Lorelei and Aidan Frank. Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and their families also survive her including special nephew and friends Dennis Lewis and wife Carrie of Denver, CO. Her beloved husband, Allen L. Orndorff, her parents, six brothers, one sister and one grandchild, preceded her in death. Memorial donations and contributions may be made in her name to any Dementia/Alzheimer's Charity, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Association of Texas, 1442 Kingwood Drive #241, Kingwood, Texas 77339 or the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL 62420 with Bro. Art Orndorff officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Washington Street Cemetery. She will be greatly missed by every member of her family and all who were fortunate enough to call her friend. The family would like to thank North East Medical Center Hospice for the warm and generous; loving care they gave to her during her last days as well as the caring concern and wonderful medical care given to her by Dr. Anil Dara and his staff.
