Dora Hester Cook's Obituary
Dora Hester Cook returned to her loving husband Charles W. Cook Jr. on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 6:10 a.m. Welcoming her to eternal peace are her parents, Thomas and Audrey (Kurts) Walsh and sisters, Ruby June Simpson, Freda Mauzy, and Fern Holding, along with countless other friends and family. Dora now watches over her sisters, Jean Deaton of Chicago, IL, Ann and husband Tom Honn of Chester, WV, Frances Franklin of Hindsboro, IL and sister-in-law, Le Ella Cook of Williamson, NY; son, Donald and wife Vania de Araujo Cook of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Charles W. Cook III of Casey, IL and Cherilyn and husband Josh Cameron of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandson, Joseph Xavier Stumpf of Indianapolis, IN; daughter in her heart, Henrietta and husband Jim Wilson of Casey, IL; son in her heart, Bill "WC" and wife Regina McBride of Little Rock, AR, and honorary grandson, Justin "Fred" Eros of Indianapolis, IN. Dora was born April 29, 1920 in Oakland, IL. Twenty-five years later she married Charles W. Cook Jr. on April 7, 1945 in Kansas, IL. They were married just shy of 50 years when "Cookie" was called home. Dora was a telephone operator in Paris, IL for five years and Casey, IL for twenty-three years and retired in 1982. Dora loved her morning walks, first at the fitness center, and later at the Roosevelt Gym. She would then go to coffee with her friends to the local Hardee's. She enjoyed taking the train to visit family in Chicago, IL and also to New York State. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Casey where she was a former choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Naomi circle and also United Methodist Women. She also faithfully cut the communion bread the first Sunday of the month. She truly enjoyed her time playing cards with anyone that would play. Her favorite thing in the world to do, though, was feed anyone that walked through her door. Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 3 pm at the United Methodist Church, Casey with the Pastor Dr. Penelope Barber officiating. Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening 4 - 7 pm and Thursday 1 - 2:30 pm at Markwell and Son Funeral Home, Casey, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Casey Library, or American Cancer Society. Markwell and Son Funeral Home, Casey assisted the family with arrangements.
