Donald Fredrick Shotts' Obituary
Donald Fredrick Shotts, 88, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 6:15 am on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Heartland Nursing Center, Casey, IL. He was born January 13, 1927 in Anderson Township, Clark County, IL the son of Fred Shotts and Lucy Katherine Brosman Shotts. On July 22, 1952 he married Wilma Jean Bishop in Martinsville, IL. Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Wilma Shotts of Martinsville, IL; brother, Clinton Shotts of Martinsville, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dean, Lester and Doyle Shotts. Mr. Shotts was a US Army WWII veteran serving with the military police in Manila, Philippines. He was a lifelong Martinsville, IL resident and worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. After leaving the railroad, Don was a self-employed timber cutter, cutting pulp wood for 18 years and ran the "pool room" in Martinsville for many years. He also enjoyed making craft items, picking apples, shucking corn and playing guitar with the Straters Raiders with his wife and sharing their music at nursing homes in the area. Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Southard and Bro. Brad Haumesser officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by the Martinsville American Legion Post 515. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL. Memorial donations may be made to Martinsville American Legion Post 515, 122 W. Cumberland St., Martinsville, IL 62442.
