Donald "Don" Joseph Sanger's Obituary
Donald "Don" Joseph Sanger, 75, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his home. He was born January 9, 1939 in Fort Riley, Kansas, the son of Wesley Sanger and Grace Annette Drown Sanger. On June 1, 1968 he married Dorothy Ann Hepner in Marshall, IL. She passed away on April 24, 2013. Survivors include daughters, Christina Leffler and husband Brian of Willow Hill, IL and Deborah Pleij and husband Rudolf of Lelystad, Netherlands; son, Michael Sanger of Martinsville, IL; five grandchildren, John, Jackson and Kelsie Leffler and Katie and Finn Pleij. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, James Drown and sister, June Ellen Wallace. Don was a 1956 graduate of Martinsville High School. He served his country in the US Navy from 1957 to 1961 on the USS Navarro. He was a member of the Marshall VFW. Don worked in construction as a union laborer and was a member of Labor Local Union #1280 in Robinson, IL for thirty-five years. He was a storyteller, loved making train whistle sounds and enjoyed playing video games and working Sudoku puzzles. Don enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL with Rev. Bill Ikemire officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, 1000 Health Center Drive, Suite 202, Mattoon, IL 61938.
