Don Allen Baird's Obituary
Don Allen Baird, age 84, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 11:08 a.m. with his loving family at his side on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County, IL. He was born May 11, 1940 in Martinsville, IL, the son of John Ishmael Baird and Edna Melcina (Synder) Baird. On September 16, 1967, he married Bonnie Rue at Casey Church of God, Casey, IL.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-six years, Bonnie Baird of Martinsville, IL; sons, Matthew Baird and wife Betheney of Farina, IL and Mitchell Baird and wife Beth of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Gavin Baird, Harrison Baird, Korbin Baird, and Harper Baird; siblings, Charles Baird and Liz of New Cumberland, WV, John Baird of New Cumberland, WV, Bill Baird and wife Laurie of Caseyville, IL, Peggy Snyder of Champaign, IL, and Lynn Denham and husband Tim of Martinsville, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jim Baird, Dale Baird, Joe Baird, Patty Price, Carolyn Miller, and Dean Baird.
Don attended Martinsville High School. He was a proud US Army Veteran serving his country from 1965 to 1971. Don was a heavy equipment operator and machinist for Marathon Pipeline Co. for several years. He also worked in the family thoroughbred industry. Don was a proud member of the Martinsville American Legion Post 515 and formerly served on the Martinsville Fair board. He enjoyed eating breakfast at the café, mowing, fishing, and hosting fish frys. Don could often be found at Bluestreak ballgames eating popcorn and handing out homemade beef jerky. He was full of life and enjoyed being ornery and teasing many he knew. He cherished his grandchildren, family, and all who knew him.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Greenwell Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Miller officiating. Graveside military rites by the Martinsville American Legion and Casey VFW and burial will follow in Baird Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL with. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
