Debra Sue (Newcomer) Ross' Obituary
Debra Sue (Newcomer) Ross, 69, entered the Eternal Kingdom on January 17, 2025 at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL. She was the wife of Scott Allen Ross. They were married on November 15, 1981 at White Oak Church in Casey, IL.
Born in Elkhart, IN on August 27, 1955, Debra was the daughter of Alvin Edward Newcomer and Mary Elizabeth (Wolfe) Newcomer. She graduated from Sawyer Business School in San Diego, CA in 1974. She earned an Associate of General Studies degree from Olympic College in Bremerton, WA in 1986.
Debra was a dedicated and supportive Navy wife to her husband, Scott. She served the Boy Scouts of America Troop 84 and Pack 84 in several positions and at the Council level as a Unit Commissioner and District Committee member. For her service she received several awards and recognitions including the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver medal. Debra also loved working with youth in church as an Awana leader and in a Christian puppet ministry. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon, IL and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Casey Post 5762 Auxiliary. Her hobbies included studying the Bible, sewing, quilting, and spending time with family. She was an avid scuba diver and loved exploring the waters of the Hawaiian Islands where she lived for many years.
Debra will be remembered for her willingness to help anyone in need and her love of family.
She is survived by her husband, Scott; brother, Steven Newcomer (South Bend, IN); many stepsiblings and adopted siblings; her children Brinda (Don) McKinney (South Bend, IN), Desiree Leffler (Licking, MO), Scott E. Ross (Casey, IL), and Michael Nabors (Casey, IL); grandchildren Jonathon, Cassandra, Celina, Danny, Ashantae, and Christopher; several nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Wyatt Newcomer and Curtis Newcomer.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in the Spring.
