Dean Leroy Finney's Obituary
Dean Leroy Finney, age 84, of Westfield, IL passed peacefully at 6:20 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Arbor Rose in Charleston, IL surrounded by his family. He was born February 28, 1935 in Westfield, IL, the son of Kenneth Merle Finney and Mildred Ione Hackney Finney. On August 5, 1956 he married Doris Evelyn Gross in Casey, IL. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris Finney of Westfield, IL; sons, Roger Finney (Diane) of Normal, IL, Scott Finney (Karen) of Westfield, IL; daughter, Gina Pharris (Ty) of Jamestown, TN; grandchildren, Matthew Finney (Arica) of Lisle, IL, Melissa Brownback (Andrew) of Costa Mesa, CA, Jason Finney (Jessica) of Bloomington, IL, Jesse Finney of Jamestown, TN and Seth Pharris of Carlinville, IL; great grandchildren, Evan and Keller Brownback and Emilee Finney; sister, Mary Tipsword of Decatur, IL; brothers, Rev. Ray Finney (Sharon) of Casey, IL, Bruce Finney of Hobe Sound, FL, Max Finney (Elaine) of Springhill, TN; sister in law, Marcella Finney of Casey, IL and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lois Finney and Esther Wagner; brother, Charles Finney; sister in law, Martha Finney and brother in laws, Raymond Wagner and Lum Tipsword. Dean was a 1954 graduate of Casey High School. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in Fort Totten, New York during the Korean conflict. Dean retired in May of 2000 from a banking career that spanned 44 years. He was a faithful member of Westfield United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school, a member of Men"™s Club at church and was a song leader at both Westfield United Methodist Church and Casey White Oak Church of God. He sang with his brothers in the "Finney Brothers Quartet" on the radio, in many churches and for funerals since 1956. Dean"™s greatest joy was his family, his love for singing and doing handiwork. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He was full of love and laughter with a great sense of humor. Dean"™s family will receive friends and family for visitation at the Westfield United Methodist Church, 225 S Madison St, Westfield, IL on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. followed by Military Rites by Westfield American Legion and Kansas American Legion. A private burial will be at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery in Westfield, IL.
