David James Sauer's Obituary
David James Sauer, age 76, of Casey, IL passed away September 27, 2019 in Casey, IL. He was born in DuPage county August 23, 1943 to Katherine (D"™Orio) and William Sauer. He was welcomed home to West Chicago by his big brother, Richard Sauer. David grew up in West Chicago, IL and attended West Chicago High School. He played the trumpet in the band and was on the Track and Field team. He graduated in 1961 from high school and went on to college at Eastern Illinois University. At EIU, David was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. David was hospitalized for an infection in his leg due to lymphedema at the Charleston Community Hospital. It was there that he met his wife to be, nurse Linda Kingery. After graduating from EIU with a degree in Business, David and Linda were married on August 27, 1966 at St Michael"™s parish in Sigel, IL. Dave and Linda lived in West Chicago near his parents and had a son, Eric in 1967, soon followed by another son, Paul in 1968. David"™s job with Kraft foods took him and his family to live in many places such as New York, where his last son, Brian was born in 1971. They went on to move to places such as Canada, Detroit, Louisville, & Cincinnati. The Sauer family moved to Casey, IL in the summer of 1976 after his good Sigma Pi buddy, Steve Allison, convinced David to work as an accountant for Larsson, Woodyard, and Henson. Soon after moving to Casey, he was asked to run the nursing home, Heartland Manor Nursing Center, and the Casey Clinic. It was also about this time that baby #4 arrived, a girl, Sara in 1978. David was the administrator for Heartland Manor Nursing Center for 33 years. While working there, he was a member and president of the Illinois Healthcare Association and he was a member of the American Healthcare Association, where he was the non for profit Vice President. At Heartland Manor, he and the staff had lots of fun while maintaining lasting friendships, even after retirement. He retired from Heartland Nursing Center in 2008 and has resided in Casey since. Golfing and fishing were among David"™s favorite hobbies. One of his greatest personal achievements was getting a hole in one on hole #3 at the Casey Country Club. He really enjoyed the company of his fellow golfers and fishermen. These people were his best friends. Sports and watching his children and grandchildren participating were very important to him. He was one of their biggest fans. He ran the game clock and announced hundreds of games. He helped with Bitty Ball, JFL, and Little League. David"™s favorite professional sports teams were the Chicago White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls. David was a member of many causes and organizations such as Rotary, Knights of Columbus, card clubs, the Sauer Invitational, Casey Country Club board, & Casey City Council. David was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Linda, children, Eric (Teresa), Paul (Amy), & Brian (Sara) all of Kirkwood, MO, and Sara (Jamie) Richardson who live across the street in Casey. His brother, Richard (Karen) Sauer of West Chicago, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and 11 grandchildren. Jake and Lauren Sauer, Thomas, Hank, and Gabe Sauer, Diego, Pablo, and Marco Sauer, Tiarra Black, Eva and Owen Richardson. We will miss his hearty laugh and big smile. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 300 E. Jefferson St., Casey, IL on Saturday October 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Following mass, a burial service will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery in Casey. An Open House Celebration of David"™s Life will be held at the Casey Country Club from 5:00" " 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
