David Eugene Hawkins' Obituary
David Eugene Hawkins, age 33, of Casey, IL, passed away at 1:27 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, in Casey, IL. He was born March 6, 1992, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Sherri Ann Hawkins and David “Dink” Eugene Cox, Jr.
David was a loving father, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his father, David “Dink” Cox Jr. (Tammy Black) of Westfield, IL; children, Keeley Hussion of Casey, IL and Easton Hawkins of Peoria, IL; sister, Chelsey Hawkins (Dalton Bracken) of Casey, IL; aunts and uncles, Melissa Coleman, Katrina Williams; cousins, Kacie Coleman (Levi Brandenburg), Kaylee Coleman, Jordan Coleman, Kassidy Williams, Blake Williams, Paige Williams, Justice Galainer and Nick Davis. He also leaves behind his honorary “little sis” Savannah Black, and many friends who loved him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Oakleigh Hawkins; grandparents, David Eugene Cox, Sr. and Marilyn Marie Osborne; great grandparents, Margaret and Val Tresley; and other beloved family members.
David was a skilled equipment operator who worked for Beeman and Sons. Outside of work, he was an extraordinary athlete and outdoorsman. He killed his first deer at the age of ten, sharing a special bond with his dad through their many hunting trips. Davis thrived in team sports—especially softball, which he played from T-ball through his adult years as a standout switch hitter. He also enjoyed MMA fighting, basketball, darts, and cornhole tournaments. David had a talent for teaching and took pride in showing his dad and Tammy how to play darts, a game he truly loved.
Known for his big heart and fun-loving spirit, David never missed an opportunity to enjoy life. Whether he was throwing darts, cracking jokes or relaxing with friends. He brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. He will be remembered as a great athlete, a kind soul, and a sweet young man who made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
