Darrell "Dean" Eugene Sherwood's Obituary
Darrell "Dean" Eugene Sherwood, 86, of Casey, IL passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 5, 1929 in Union Center, IL the son of Howard Wesley Sherwood and Laura Pearl Gray Sherwood. On May 15, 1951 he married Mary Ann Cox in Casey, IL. She passed away on December 6, 2011. Dean is survived by one son, Greg (Linda) Sherwood of Martinsville, IL and three daughters, Carol (Phil) Brown of Casey, IL, Karen Shull of Casey, IL and Sharen Wright (Dave Pruner) of Ruskin, FL; one brother, Keith (Sandra) Sherwood of Casey, IL; nine grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Dora (Willard) Cox and Rosemary Sherwood and two brothers, Bud (Doris) and Frank Sherwood. He attended Yanaway Grade School and graduated in 1947 from Casey High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War stationed primarily in Camp Pickett, Virginia and Augsburg, Germany from 1950-1952. He was honorably discharged in 1956. In February of 1953 he went to work for the State of Illinois for two years. Dean worked for one of the oil companies located south of Westfield, IL for the next three to four years before relocating south of Casey. There he purchased land and began his life-long career and love of farming. Dean was a founding member and coach of the Casey Girls Softball Association and was inducted into the Casey Softball Hall of Fame in 2013. He also served a term on the Casey School Board and was a member of the Casey First Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL with military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
