Darrell S "Jake" Sharp's Obituary
Darrell S. "Jake" Sharp, 83, of Urbana, IL and formerly of the Casey, IL area passed away at 4:14 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, IL. He was born December 13, 1923 in Cumberland County, IL, the son of Henry Harrison Sharp and Lennie Packer Sharp. On October 11, 1952 he married Agnes Charlene Cook. Survivors include his wife, Charlene Sharp of Urbana, IL; brother, Ivan Sharp and wife Rosalie of Tuscola, IL; sister, Delene Gallatin of Elwood, IN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, brother, Fermen Sharp and sister, Maxine Ruffner. Mr. Sharp worked as a dispatcher and short run driver for Global Van Lines in Champaign, IL for over 25 years. Prior to his work in Champaign, he worked in the oilfields and farmed with his dad. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, where he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was an avid Cardinals fan. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Washington Street Cemetery with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. Markwell Funeral Home of Casey, IL is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial tributes may be sent to the family at markwellfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
