Clyde LeRoy Coleman's Obituary
Clyde LeRoy Coleman, age 64, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 4:32 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born June 24, 1952 in Martinsville, IL, the son of Clyde Leroy Gowin and Juanita Faye Bailey Gowin. At the age of six Clyde was adopted and raised by Ralph Berlin and Vivian Irene (Patchett) Coleman. On July 25, 2008 he married Debra Welch in Annapolis, MO. Survivors include his wife, Debra Welch-Coleman of Martinsville, IL; daughters, Crystal (Rusty) Roe of Martinsville, IL; Carrie (Darin) Patrick of Martinsville, IL and Caryn (Tim) Parli of Carbondale, IL; stepdaughter, Andrea Kegerreis of Martinsville, IL; stepsons, Christian Lamar of Kansas City, MO; Matthew (Elnara) Lamar of Warner Robins, GA and Aaron (Tonya) Lamar of Sedalia, MO; brother, Archie (Judy) Gowin of Casey, IL; sister, Sonja (Fred) Yagow of Collinsville, IL; mother of his children, Rebecca Sue Laymon of Marshall, IL; twelve grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ethel Elaine Black and Lela Jean Gowin and two infant brothers. Clyde was a 1970 graduate of Casey High School. During his high school years he set a record in Cross Country. He worked as a city mail carrier until his retirement in June 2007. Clyde loved horses, trail riding and was a true horseman. He was a member of the Arabian Horse, Morgan Horse and Quarter Horse Associations. In his younger years he enjoyed raccoon hunting. Clyde had many phrases he used throughout his life; one of his favorites was "You haven't had a good day unless you have spent it in the saddle on the back of a good horse." Memorial services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Martinsville Bible Church with Rev. David Wilson and Rev. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the Martinsville Bible Church, 509 North Ridgelawn Rd., Martinsville, IL. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Shawnee Trail Conservancy, P.O. Box 44, Eddyville, IL 62928. (The STC has a long history of advocacy keeping access to the Shawnee National Forest.)
