Clifford Riley Smith's Obituary
Clifford Riley Smith, 89, of Casey, IL passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. He was born on March 29, 1926 in the home where he resided. He was the son of Everett R. and Zona E. Smith. Her maiden name really was Smith. Three of the daughters of George and Lucy Elliott Smith married three of the sons of James and Kate Bishop Smith. (No relation) They all lived side by side in the DuPont Community. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elsie, daughter of Albert and Jessie Eldridge Goble. They married Sept. 17, 1955; sons; Steve (Mary Beth) Smith of Casey, Tom (Tami) Smith of Carlinville and Chad (Lori) Smith of Casey; brothers, Robert (Phyllis) Smith of Urbana and George Smith of Lima, OH; and sister; Loretta Goble of Martinsville. Grandchildren are Devin (Zach) Allen, Brogan Strong (Peter Oswald), Carson Strong, Jackson , Riley, Wesley, Avery and Jacob Smith. He was preceded by his parents, brothers; Rev. Hugh (Imogene) Smith, Howard (Helen) Smith and Roy (Emily) Smith; sisters, Inez (Robert) Slater and infant sister, Eleanor Smith; sister in law, Carolyn Smith and brother in law, Charles Goble. Clifford attended both Concord and Casey High Schools. He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran and was a waist gunner on a B17. Clifford attended Friendship Church and was baptized at an early age in the North Fork Creek, not far from the church. He was a farmer and small oilfield owner. You could usually find him on his Honda 4 wheeler checking his wells. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. Memorial donations may be made to Casey Health Care Center, 100 NE 15th St., Casey, IL 62420 and the Clark County 4-H, 15493 N State Hwy 49, Marshall, IL 62441.
