Christine M Rothrock's Obituary
Christine M. Rothrock, born May 28, 1917, in Martinsville, IL, died April 6, 2009 in Geneva, IL. The daughter of Clarence E. and Eunice Hogue Deverick, she graduated from Casey Township High School, Casey, IL in 1934 and married G. Olaf Rothrock in June, 1936. They resided in Robinson, IL where Mrs. Rothrock was employed as an abstractor for Crawford County Realty. In 1958 she moved to Springfield and worked for 30 years for the State of Illinois in the Department of Financial Institutions. After retiring, she was employed for six years by Sangamon State University in SUAA, a retirement organization for professors. She spent many days in the Charleston library and in Coles County cemeteries researching her Ashmore, Galbreath, Hogue and Childress ancestors. Her interest in history and genealogy lead her to membership in the Daughters of American Revolution where she served as recording secretary, parliamentarian and insignia chairman. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and served as president of the state organization and of the local tent. Mrs. Rothrock served as flag chairman for the Daughters of 1812. She was known for her knowledge of the history and etiquette of the American flag and often gave presentations. Mrs. Rothrock is survived by her son, Kent G. Rothrock and wife Ann of Sugar Grove, IL; grandson, Scott A. Rothrock and wife Lisa of Ashburn, VA; granddaughter, Cathleen R. Bushman and husband William of Geneva, IL; great-grandchildren, Derek and Natalie Rothrock and Riley and Haddie Bushman. She leaves an extended family of very special friends. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Washington Street Cemetery in Casey, IL with Dr. Rev. Penelope Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Street Cemetery. There will be a memorial service in Springfield at a later date.
