Carol Kay Boyer's Obituary
Carol Kay (Williams) Boyer, age 81, of Casey, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:35 a.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024. How fitting that she would enter eternal life on the Lord 's Day and at the very time church services started her entire life! She was surrounded by her family and closest friends at Willowbrook Memory Care in Marshall, IL where their kind and compassionate staff went above and beyond to make sure she was loved and spoiled.
She was born on May 2, 1943 on top of Pony Mountain to Bryan Daniel Williams and Gladys Leta (Chapman) Williams. In her younger years, she helped her mother run the Moonshine Store where they also resided in the upstairs. She graduated from Casey High School and then attended Indiana State University where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. Her career as an RN spanned over 50 years including her years with Lincolnland Hospice and Lincolnland Visiting Nurses in Casey, IL of which she was the founder. She then met William Lewis Boyer who she would marry on June 6, 1965 at the Bellair Church of Christ in Bellair, IL. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2004.
Survivors include her children, Robin Turner (Scott) of Van Buren, OH and Brent Boyer (Angie) of Zionsville, IN, grandchildren, Layne (Turner) Davoudpour (Damon), Brett Turner (Faith), Ryan Turner and Drew Turner and Ellie (Boyer) Fletcher (Clayton) and Brooks Boyer; great grandchildren, Carter and Colton Turner; sister, Joyce Weaver of Casey, IL; many nephews and nieces, her church family and many dear friends and coworkers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Bill Boyer), and siblings, Anita (Williams) Weaver, Lena Mae Williams, Lowell Williams, Leland Williams and Leta (Williams) Kell.
She spent her life serving others but she served God above all else. She never missed a church service unless deathly sick and she could be found at any Gospel Meeting within a 40-mile radius the other days of the week. She loved her family with all her heart and absolutely adored her 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was also a devoted, loving and dedicated daughter, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She chose to be a nurse because she longed to be a servant and help make everyone 's load a bit lighter. She however started out a bit rocky when she gave one of her male patients an enema using scalding hot water to which he responded by jumping out of the bed and running out of the hospital screaming, "She 's trying to kill me!"
She loved taking care of her patients and not only took care of them but became life-long friends with them and their families. She had two emergency back surgeries from lifting on her patients, slept in her clothes so she was ready to go if called out and could be found sobbing in her rocking chair while reading the obituaries of her patients. She was also notorious for taking shortcuts through the country to her patients ' houses showing up hours later however they didn 't seem to mind because she was worth waiting for.
Carol was not only a member of the Casey Westside Church of Christ but was one of a few of the founding members. Carol along with a handful of others built the structure that became the Westside Church of Christ building in 1975 and she attended there her entire life. She was a loyal and devout Christian from the time she was baptized until she drew her last breath. She fought the good fight, she finished the race, and she kept the faith. We will miss her so much, but we know she is now wearing the crown she so richly deserves. Her tombstone reads, "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man," (Ecclesiastes 12:13) and that is exactly how she lived her life.
