She was born on March 6, 1918 in Clark County, Illinois to Harry and Gussie Swim Medsker. She had a brother, Russell, who preceded her in death and a sister who died in infancy. Bonnie grew up on a farm during the Great Depression and experienced World War II as a young adult. She married Darrell Simpson on August 31, 1933. They lived a happy and productive life, celebrating over 63 years of marriage at the time Darrell passed away. They raised two sons-Bernie and Larry. She also worked on the farm, raising chickens, selling eggs, raising a garden and canning foods for family and friends. Bonnie spent many years visiting the nursing home daily to care for her mother and later her husband who were residents there in their later years. She loved to cook and was known for the many varieties of pies that she made for every occasion. She was also talented with home crafts and loved to quilt and crochet. Her final years were spent at the Burnsides Nursing home where her "living room" was widely decorated with her hand crafted doilies and crocheted decorations. She is survived by her son Larry (wife Linda) of Martinsville, IL. Her son Bernie passed away within hours of Bonnie's death, but is survived by his wife Barbara (Carpenter) of Martinsville, IL.
