Beverly Joan "BJ" Smith's Obituary
Beverly Joan "B.J." Smith, 75, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. She was born on April 23, 1940 in Martinsville, IL, the daughter of Carl Raymond Smith and Genettia Nell Wells Smith. Survivors include her mother, Nellie Smith of Casey, IL; and sisters, Carolyn June Stephens and husband Larry of Westfield, IL, Catherine Louise Brenner and husband Don of Las Cruces, NM, Ashley Henningman and husband Gary of Charleston, IL and Genettia Rae Dean and husband Alan of Martinsville, IL. She was preceded by her father. Beverly was a 1958 graduate of Martinsville High School. She served in the United States Marine Corp based in Hawaii. Beverly spent most of her life in California. In her free time, she enjoyed camping in the mountains, the beach or the desert. While Beverly lived in California, she worked as a factory laborer at AMF Corp and even drove a fork lift for Voit. Her most recent occupation was in health care. Beverly was an animal lover with a passion for dogs and turtles. In the last years of her life, she developed an interest in Archeology and Native American culture. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Greenwell Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL.
