Betty Lou Oakley Shaffner's Obituary
Betty Lou Oakley Shaffner, 67, of West Union, IL formerly of Westfield, IL passed away with her loving family at her side at 9:10 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. She was born January 7, 1948 in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Homer Geffs and Dorothy Cox Geffs. On December 11, 1971 she married Frank Delano "Del" Oakley in Casey, IL. He passed away on May 3, 1997. She later married Myron Lee Shaffner on September 15, 2001 in West Union, IL. Survivors include her husband, Myron Shaffner of West Union, IL; son, Geff (Wendy) Oakley of Aurora, IL; daughters, Jennifer (Spencer) Swensen of Charleston, IL and Joanie (Jason) Fellers of Charleston, IL; step-daughter, Brenda Lee (Brock) Hancock of Monroe City, IN; grandchildren, Madelynn Huber, Delaney Huber, Derek Oakley, Jacob Oakley, Kennedy Fellers, Kaylee Fellers, Kirk Swensen and Sydnie Hancock; brother, Dean Geffs of Martinsville, IL; sisters, Phyllis Baker of Woodlawn, TN; Velma Brammel of Indianapolis, IN; Wilma Parker of Portage, IN and Doris Whyde of McCordsville, IN and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Geffs and Dorothy Geffs-Phillips, husband, Frank Delano Oakley and brothers, Rex Geffs and Dale Geffs. Betty was a graduate of Casey High School and received her Occupational Therapy Certificate from Lake Land College. She was a homemaker, a CNA at Birchwood Nursing Home, an In-Home Care Aide and a Hospice Volunteer. She attended the Potters Hall Church. Betty was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and a loving grandmother. Anyone who knew Betty knew she was an extremely thoughtful and generous person, always putting everyone's needs before her own. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Billie Ray Ulrey and Rev. Tom Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Medsker Cemetery, south of Martinsville, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL.
