Bart Philip Long's Obituary
Bart Philip Long, age 92, of Martinsville, IL passed away at 3:55 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2025 at his home. He was born May 2, 1933 in Three Brothers, AR the son of Lester Long and Audrey (Larmer) Long. On October 20, 1956 he married Carol Frances Smith in Martinsville, IL. She passed away on May 2, 2004.
Survivors include his children, Michael Long (Debbie) of Martinsville, IL; Mark Long (Yvonne) of Martinsville, IL and Twila Miller of Westfield, IL (who passed away on December 27, 2025); sister, Mary Himes of Martinsville, IL; grandchildren, Christopher Long (Angela); April Kelly (Dave); Anneka Long; Whitney Hill (Tony) and Brittany Duvall; great grandchildren, Anthony Scott, Logan Scott, Autumn Kelly, Ethan Kelly, Ares Long, Rhythm Long, Alexandria Coleman, Joshua Coleman, Riley Duvall, Braxten Duvall, Quintin Duvall and Brexlei Long and great great granddaughter, Averi Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol Long; daughter in law, Tana Long and son in law, James Miller.
Bart was a 1951 graduate of Ava High School, Ava, MO. He proudly served his country during the Korean and Vietnam wars, in the US Marine Corp. for 20 years and as a drill sergeant for over 7 years. He lived and was stationed in many places including Arkansas, California, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Japan and Korea. After retirement from his military service Bart moved to Martinsville, IL and was employed with the Martinsville School District as a custodian and bus driver and was grounds keeper and assisted at Greenwell Funeral Home for the past 50 years.
Bart was a faithful member of Marshall Masonic Lodge and served as District Deputy for several years; the Scottish Rites of the Valley of Danville, Anaid Shriners of St. Louis, MO, Order of the Eastern Star, Martinsville American Legion, Martinville Bible Church and frequently attended Martinsville Methodist Church. Bart was always willing to lend a helping hand; he mowed yards for many people in town, offered rides to those in need and volunteered at the local food pantry. He was a caring father who always made time to be with his children, fishing, playing catch coaching their teams and serving as their Boy Scout Master for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Greenwell Funeral Home with Pastor Zoila Marty officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites by Martinsville American Legion and Casey VFW. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, January 8, 2025 at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL. Masonic and Eastern Star services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. following the visitation.
