Avis Jean Sigmund's Obituary
Avis Jean Sigmund, 87, of Casey, IL passed away at 5:17 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. Anthony Hospital, Effingham, IL. She was born March 23, 1925 in Pesotum, IL, the daughter of Burdette Leroy Fletcher and Jessie Blanche Eveland Fletcher. She married Walter B. Burtnett in Rantoul, IL; he passed away on January 2, 1956. She later married Richard Alonzo Sigmund in Champaign, IL. He passed away on March 26, 1971. Survivors include her sons, Robert Vaughn and wife Bonnie of Mahomet, IL and William "Bill" Burtnett of Indianapolis, IN; daughters, Roseanna "Dawn" Vavra and husband Thomas of Newton, KS and Melodi Park of Casey, IL; daughter in law, Betty Burtnett of Rantoul, IL; sisters, Barbara "Pat" Truitt of Casey, IL and Carolyn "Sue" Batchelor and husband William of Palm Bay, FL; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, husbands and sons, Alan Burtnett, Bruce Burtnett and Bradley Sigmund. Mrs. Sigmund was a homemaker. She enjoyed landscape painting and making ceramic crafts. She was a member of the Casey VFW Post #5762 Women's Auxiliary and the Casey Moose Lodge. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Markwell Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Juenger officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday at the Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey, IL. . Burial will be in the Washington Park Mausoleum East, Indianapolis, IN.
