Archie L. Gowin's Obituary
Archie L. Gowin, age 74, of Casey, IL passed away at 5:51 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born January 7, 1945 in Casey, IL, the son of Clyde Leroy Gowin and Juanita Irene Bailey Gowin. On July 27, 1962 he married Judy Ann Simpson in Casey, IL. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Gowin of Casey, IL; daughter, Julie Connelly of Casey, IL; son, Jeff Gowin (Tiffany) of Casey, IL; sister, Sonja Yagow (Fred) of Collinsville, IL; grandchildren, Samantha Fisher, MacKenzie Connelly, Austin Partlow, Dori Gowin and Laney Gowin; great grandsons, Deron Fisher, Easton Fisher and Blayne Fisher; many in-laws, nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ethel Elaine Black and Lela Jean Gowin; brother, Clyde LeRoy Coleman and infant brothers, Bobby Gene Gowin and Eddie Lee Gowin. Archie attended Casey High School. He was a carpenter by trade and owned and operated Gowin Construction and JAG Construction until his retirement. He attended Casey First Christian Church. Archie was an antique car enthusiast; his passion was to rebuild and restore vehicles. He designed and built a custom made, hand crafted Trolley that he and Judy provided for events, parades and shared rides on Saturdays in the summer months with anyone visiting Big Things in a Small Town in Casey. Archie had an outgoing and enthusiastic personality. He was a true people person; he could carry on a conversation with anyone, anytime, about anything. In 2015 Archie and Judy received WTHI TV"™s Make a Difference Award for their contributions to society. Archie enjoyed motorcycling (he road almost 100,000 miles in his younger years), car shows (Frog Follies), traveling in the south, movies (comedies and westerns) and watching the Motor Trend Channel. He and Judy attended the annual Covered Bridge Festival together for over 50 years. They enjoyed making quilts together and donated and gave away many. Most of all Archie adored his family and cherished time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandsons. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Markwell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mount Cemetery, rural Casey, IL.
