Andrew A Philippi's Obituary
Andrew A. Philippi, 94, of Casey, IL died at 6:15 PM Thursday, August 24, 2006 at Casey Health Care Center, Casey, IL. Andy was born April 1, 1912 at Vevay Park, IL. to John and Lina (Starks) Philippi. On November 16, 1942 in St. Louis, MO he married Irma Rothrock who preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 1998. He was also preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters: George, Hilda, Charles, Minnie, Myrtle, Wilma and Wilda. Andy is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, George and Madonna Ormsby of Robinson and a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Philippi of Casey. His family also includes a granddaughter and her husband, Sherri and Mark Akers of Champaign; a grandson and wife, Lyle and Kim Ormsby of Effingham and grandsons, Adam and Benjamin Philippi of Casey; a great-grandson, Riley Akers and a great-granddaughter, Rachel Ormsby; step-grandchildren, Libby Van Hoveln and Toby Taylor as well as several nieces and nephews. During World War II he was a P.O.W. in Germany having been captured at the Battle of the Bulge. After his release at the end of the war, he worked as an oil field worker for Ashley Oil Company for over 30 years. He fully retired at age 72 and continued to enjoy his family, Cubs ballgames and breakfasts at Hardees with friends. He attended Macedonia Church for many years. He always had a kind word for everyone and was well known for his ability to make people smile. Funeral services for Andy will be at Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, IL on Sunday, August 27, 2006. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 PM with the funeral following at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow services at the Greenup Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion. The Rev. Marvin Oakley will be the minister.
