Larry Gene Cutright, age 85, of Casey, IL formerly of Greenup, IL passed away at 7:52 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born April 9, 1934 in Cumberland County, IL, the son of John W. Cutright and Pearl Shafer Cutright. On March 20, 2013 he married Linda Darlene Fancher Brandenburg in Marshall, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Cutright of Casey, IL; stepson, Billy Joe Wilkins of Watson, IL; stepdaughter, Becky Althaus (Ian) of Lakewood, WA and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James Cutright and John Lee Cutright; sisters, Evelyn Pridemore, Aleen Rennels and Mariam Sanders.
Larry was a lifelong grain farmer and raised hogs for many years in Cumberland County. He was a member of Cumberland County Farm Bureau. Larry was a US Army veteran, serving his country from 1956 – 1958 in France. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church and former member and volunteer of American Baptist Association. He loved to study the Bible and would write down verses as he found them that were special to him. Larry was a Prayer Warrior for many. He was very active in the Casey Senior Social Center, where he was crowned Prince in 2019. Larry especially enjoyed fishing and gardening; he would raise a bountiful crop in his garden and was always happy to share with everyone including his doctors. Larry enjoyed attending music events in the area; he and Linda especially enjoyed the Edgewood Opry and Greenup Hootenanny.
At his request, Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Nebo Cemetery, rural Cumberland County, IL with Rev. Randy Black and Rev. Art Orndorff officiating. Family and friends will gather at Markwell Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday to process to the cemetery where graveside military rites will be performed by Casey VFW and Martinsville American Legion.
